Free Three-Credit Course Teaches About Budgeting and Financial Planning

Students considering taking fall classes can still register for a free late-start three-credit course offered through the Gateway Community College GREAT Center and designed to help with budgeting and financial planning.

Money Management for Life, a free course offered through the generosity of Guardian Life Insurance Company, is structured to help working adults in the community who have earned a high school diploma.  The course will run from 5:45 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays from September 24 to November 12.  To qualify for this opportunity, participants must be employed full or part-time.   

Students will learn how to budget their money, make a financial plan, and let their money work for them.  Tuition, materials, college fees, and parking are included.

Topics covered include:

  • Budgeting, financial statements
  • Financial institutions, savings, online resources
  • Money management, cash, liquidity
  • Credit management, fixing scores, personal loans
  • Insurance – liability, health, disability, whole life, annuity, cash value
  • Investing – fundamentals, bonds and stocks
  • Retirement – planning, types of savings, goals
  • Estate planning – legal and tax implications
