Visiting Artist Margaret Krug to Speak at GCC Art Club Workshop

Share

The Gateway Community College (GCC) Art Club will sponsor a lecture and workshop demonstration by Margaret Krug, an artist, writer and associate professor of painting and drawing at Parsons The New School for Art and Design in Manhattan. The workshop will be held from 1:45 p.m. to 4 p.m. on April 10 in GCC’s Painting Studio, Room S325. Gateway students, faculty and staff are invited to attend.

Krug will focus on the early Renaissance painting technique using Egg Tempera. Five students will be invited to participate in the hands-on making of their own egg tempera and will paint a prepared Gesso panel, similar to one an apprentice would have used at a Renaissance Master’s studio. Renowned artists such as Giotto, Lorenzetti, Duccio and Piero Della Francesca all used the technique.

“On behalf of the Art Club of Gateway Community College we are pleased to have Ms. Margaret Krug come to our new campus as Visiting Artist, said Vincent Baldassano, GCC associate professor of Art.

Krug’s work has been exhibited at AIR Gallery, The Whitney Museum of American Art, The Nix Gallery, and Vlepo Gallery in New York City as well as at the Art Institute of Chicago, the Nelson-Atkins Museum and throughout the United States, Europe, and South America. She has said she is fascinated by the processes and materials used in art and that literature and the history of art inspire her own work.

Krug is also Senior Lecturer at the Whitney Museum of American Art and has taught painting at the Art Institute of Chicago, where she received her MFA, and at Castello di Spanocchia in Italy. She is a contributing writer to American Artist and Drawing magazines.
