GCC Men’s Basketball Ranked 10th in Nation by NCJAA

The Gateway Community College men’s basketball team has been ranked 10th in the nation by the National Junior College Athletic Association (NCJAA).

The Gateway Lions, who play in Division III, have a 9-1 record contributed to the ranking, along with accomplishments of individual players, including two players, Jerome Parkins and Nathaniel Campbell who rank among the top 25 nationwide in scoring with an average 21 points and 17 points per game, respectively.

Campbell and Parkins are also two of the top 25 players nationally in rebounding, with Campbell averaging 13 per game and Parkins averaging 11 per game. And Mario Darden is among the top 25 players nationwide for assists. The team also ranks 16th nationally for defense, allowing only 64 points on average to be scored against them the whole season.

Parkins was also named the NCJAA’s Division III Player of the Week Nov. 30 for his performance in the Suffolk and Nassau Classics the team played on Long Island.

In addition to Parkins, Campbell and Darden, the team includes: Kenneth Gilmore, Damion Gay, Tyshan Smith, Sheldon Clarke, Montre Holmes, Richard Passard, Davon Pratt, Terrell Walden, Daniel Litevich, Michael Davis, Curtis Baldwin and  Quincy Johnson. It is led by Coach John Stewart and Assistant Coach Carrie Cole.
