Share

The Connecticut State Colleges and Universities (CSCU) Community Colleges are ranked 9th Best Community College System in the Nation for 2016 by WalletHub.com.  The Connecticut Community College system is the only New England system to make it into the top ten.

Gateway Community College ranked in the top 12%, over all, among the best community colleges in the nation, and in the top 3% for career outcomes.

“I wholeheartedly congratulate all the students, staff, faculty and leadership of our Community Colleges for this great acknowledgement,” said CSCU President Mark Ojakian. “Their hard work and dedication are what enables us to continue educating Connecticut residents. From nursing, to advanced manufacturing and all other curricula we offer, our schools are preparing students for success in the modern competitive workplace.”

Governor Dannel P. Malloy stated: “Our Community Colleges are major assets to our state — and they're going to continue to be assets as they provide the training and workforce skills to prepare students for the jobs of the future. We are proud of our community colleges and proud of the faculty and administrators that do such extraordinary work. This is another demonstration why Connecticut is one of the best places to live, work, and raise a family.”

Board of Regents Chair, Matt Fleury added: "Connecticut's community colleges are an extraordinary asset for our citizens, our businesses and our state. Everyone who contributes to the work of these valuable institutions should take pride in their achievements this and every day, including the students and alumni who earn and define our success."

The data analyzed over 821 institutions across the country and took into account 12 key metrics including student enrollment, tuition costs and programs offered such as workforce development. The state-by-state analysis, calculated a weighted average of the scores obtained by the community colleges in each state and the number of students enrolled in each school. The study also took into account only the states that had at least two community colleges present in a sample of the Best & Worst Community Colleges in order to ensure comparability of results.
