Mary Ellen Cody, dean of Development and Community Partnerships at Gateway Community College, has been named the Greater New Haven Chamber of Commerce’s (GNHCC) Chamber Volunteer of the Year. Cody was honored Oct. 15 at the GNHCC 226th Annual Meeting & Annual Business Leadership Awards, held virtually. Cody is being recognized for her many contributions to the region, specifically volunteering.
"Mary Ellen provides tremendous support for the chamber," Garrett Sheehan, GNHCC president and CEO, said. "She’s always there when we need her and takes on several key roles, including leading our anniversary committee last year and working with our foundation efforts. The experience and energy she brings is invaluable."
The 226th Annual Meeting of the Greater New Haven Chamber of Commerce was postponed in April due to Covid-19. The Annual Business Leadership Awards component of the program recognized individuals and businesses that exhibit exceptional leadership skills and are active in the business community. This year’s online event also featured a conversation with Yale New Haven Health CEO, Marna Borgstrom.
“We at Gateway Community College are incredibly proud of Mary Ellen Cody and thankful for all the work she has done at Gateway, in the New Haven region, and across the state," William Brown, chief executive officer, Gateway, said. "Mary Ellen is incredibly generous with her time and talents and contributes so much to the success of so many people and organizations. I can’t imagine anyone more deserving of this honor.”
