GCC Lady Lions Finish Season Strong

The Gateway Community College Women’s Basketball Team ended their season with a final record of 13-6. At the height of their season, the Lady Lions were ranked No. 7 in the nation and No. 2 in New England Region, 21. At the regional tournament in Springfield, Mass. on Feb. 27, 2016, they faced UCONN, Avery Point in the semi-finals and emerged victorious with a final score of 78-75. The high scorers for the game were Dejah Lanier, with a game high of 28 points; Katrina DePugh, with 14 points; and Ava Marie Harris with 9 assists. The game sealed their spot in the finals against No. 1 nationally-ranked Roxbury Lady Tigers of Boston. 

The championship on Feb., 28, 2016 was a real nail biter, with Roxbury defeating the Gateway Lady Lions 68-58. The high scorers in this game were Tiara Thompson, with 16 points, and Ava Harris, Amanda McKenzie, and Shantel Ratchford each with 10 points respectively. The following players received post tournament awards:
