Gateway Community College (GCC) Business Administration student Eugene L. Bell was elected by the Student Advisory Committee to the Board of Regents in March. He will serve the remainder of the term through June 30 as the Vice-Chair of the Student Advisory Committee. He will also serve as a member of the Board of Regents for ConnCSU.

Roberta Prior, GCC’s director of Student Activities and Leadership Programs, congratulated Bell on “this recognition of his integrity and leadership.”

Bell, a Business Administration major, is the father of three children. He and his oldest son both attend Gateway. While pursuing his degree, Bell has served GCC as the President of the Armed Forces and Veteran’s Club and he has been part of the Student Government Association (SGA). He has worked in the Veteran’s Affairs Office and the Small Business Center. He was a Team Leader in the Students in Free Enterprise when they won first place at the Northeast Regional competition. He also teaches a job readiness course at New Horizon High School in New Haven.

Bell joined the U.S. Armed Forces in 1991 where he was stationed at Hunter Army Airfield in Savannah, GA. Throughout his military career, he has supervised soldiers in the field of automated logistic specialist. As a non-commissioned officer, he was awarded the Army Accommodation Medal, the Operation Iraqi Freedom Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, a Presidential Unit Citation, the Commander’s Award for Excellence and the Operation Enduring Freedom Medal. Bell ended his Army career in 2006 after serving in Iraq, Kuwait and Germany.

SGA President Symphany Joseph said Bell is “compassionate about the well-being of our students and our future. He demonstrates strong leadership skills and is a strong advocate for the students he serves.”
