Gateway's Surgical Technology Program Receives Accreditation

The Surgical Technology program at Gateway Community College received accreditation in September from the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP). The peer review conducted by the Accreditation Review Council on Education in Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (ARC/STSA) and CAAHEP’s Board of Directors recognizes the program's substantial compliance with the nationally established accreditation Standards.
Surgical Technologists are integral members of the surgical team who work closely with surgeons, registered nurses, and anesthesia personnel. Surgical technologists are also responsible for assembling and organizing all the specialized instruments, equipment and tools needed for a wide variety of surgical procedures.

University of Bridgeport and Area Community Colleges Sign Articulation Transfer Agreement
The University of Bridgeport (UB) and Gateway Community College, Housatonic Community College, and Norwalk Community College marked the start of a new articulation agreement during a virtual signing on June 26. The agreement provides a pathway for transfer to a bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Sciences (MLS). William T. Brown, PhD, Appointed CEO of
Gateway Community College
In May 2020, the Connecticut Board of Regents for Higher Education announced the appointment of Dr. Brown to the position of Chief Executive Officer of Gateway Community College during the open session of the May 14 meeting, which was held virtually and attended by over 320 faculty, staff and students from the 12 Connecticut Community Colleges. Brown’s duties include serving as the lead campus administrator and on-site operational leader, providing guidance on development and implementation of strategic plans along with budgetary, enrollment, academic, and related matters. GCC Student Honored with Awards for Excellence in Nutrition and Dietetics
Gateway graduate Kathrin Schroeder received Gateway’s Nutrition and Dietetics Overall Clinical Excellence Award this June. The international student, who hails from Germany, was also chosen as the Nutrition and Dietetics Student of the Year by the CT Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
Schroeder came to the United States as an au pair and enrolled in Gateway in 2018 when she discovered the Nutrition and Dietetics program. Read More >>
Queen of Quotes Inspires Daughters
Barnetta Haywood’s daughters call her the “queen of quotes” and for good reason. Haywood, a New Haven resident who graduates from Gateway Community College this June with an associate’s degree in Liberal Arts and Sciences, can’t help but share inspirational maxims, even in casual conversation, because, as she puts it, she “lives through affirmations.” She continues, “I want to be a living example of how a woman should be despite what's thrown at you.
